We know that you will want reassurance your child has progressed with their English language studies, which is why we assess your child continually to ensure success.
Parents of children studying at Pingu's English Schools may also be able to get a formal and independent assessment at the end of their studies of how their child's English language learning has progressed, thanks to a global agreement with Cambridge English Language Assessment.

Background to YLE
Pingu's English provides all the skills that are needed for a child to undertake YLE which is provided by the world-renowned testing body - Cambridge. There are three different levels for Young Learners - the first - 'Starters' - fits in line with our Pingu's English program.
YLE is a formal assessment of students' English language progress to international standards. The test builds on what they have learnt with Pingu's English and is a fantastic goal and reward for your child.
There are three different parts to the test:
- Listening - 20 Minutes
This section is divided into four different parts with 20 questions. Each part begins with one or two examples. The spelling on the test is British English but students taking the test will hear both American and British accents.
- Reading and Writing - 20 minutes
This section is in five parts with 25 questions and again begins with written examples. It is important to concentrate on spelling when answering this section.
- Speaking - 3-5 minutes
This section is also divided into five parts. It is taken with the examiner but they will always be someone who speaks the same language as the child sitting the test so all explanations will be in their native language.
Benefits of YLE
For children to take full advantage of the opportunities that tomorrow's world of work will offer, knowledge of English is an important asset.
YLE is one of the best known international English tests for children, designed to offer a comprehensive approach to testing the English of primary learners. They are provided by the Cambridge English Language Assessment - one of Europe's largest education assessment organisations
When your child studies Pingu's English with us, you can be confident that they are working towards a certificate that is accepted by thousands of educational organisations and employers throughout the world. What's more, it can be seen as the first step towards the Cambridge main suite of examinations e.g. the Key English Test (KET) and the Preliminary English Test (PET) for young people and adults.
- Real-life language skills
When children learn English, it is important they learn English which is practical and useful. They also need to work towards international standards that will prepare them for study abroad or the international world of work. The Cambridge English: Starters test is aligned with A1 on the Council of Europe's Common European Framework for Languages. It lays the foundation for language learning, teaching practical language skills and offers a reliable and consistent measure of how well your child is doing in the skills of listening, speaking and reading and writing.
- Relevant for your child
YLE is specially tailored to suit the interests of schoolchildren, so they increase their motivation to learn English. Because the tests are based on familiar topics and situations, they give your child the confidence to use their English and inspire them to do well.
- Fun and stimulating
Pingu's English and Cambridge English Language Assessment both believe that learning should not be stressful for children. By enjoying their studies, reading, listening and speaking in English come naturally. As their confidence develops, they will want to learn more and use English to a more challenging level.
Cambridge English exams cover all major varieties of English and are designed to be fair to users of all nationalities and linguistic backgrounds.
- First class test preparation and support
A wealth of materials will be available through your Pingu's English School to help you and your child prepare for the test.
- A Cambridge English Language Assessment certificate
Every child who takes the test in one of our Pingu's English testing centers, will receive an award which will show how many 'shields' they achieved, the maximum being 15 shields. This makes sure that every child who takes the test feels a sense of encouragement and reward.
